In the fine tradition of Western chase scenes, Ernest gets his horse shot out from under him takes a bullet in the steam chamber of his quadrovelocipede. It’s not as poignant, but much kinder to the animals.

But it’s Bartok to the rescue! He swoops in with the Legend hot-air balloon and picks Ernest up to continue the chase.

Another fine moment of fanservice.

But Ernest is freaking out. His keen sense ofself-preservation narrative has recognized the scenario. “I wrote this scene. I get shot. I die.”

Bartok’s reply? “I assure you that it’s much more likely that you’ll crash and break your neck before he even gets a chance to shoot you.” Good ol' Bartok.

Thus reassured, Ernest takes a flying leap with the ‘Legend wings’ – the hang glider.

The scene doesn’t play out as badly as the ‘fictional’ one did. For starters, the Cute Little Girl doesn’t behave like a passive little puppet; she wriggles and squirms and smacks at Silas’ arm, ruining his shot, and then manages to slide off the horse and run away. Meanwhile, Ernest actually gets another one of Bartok’s gadgets to work: theBig-Ass Magnet Tight-Focus Disarmer sucks Silas’ gun out of his hand before he can shoot again.

Ernest then manages to land almost on top of Silas, knocking him off his horse. This breaks Ernest’s fall (instead of his neck). When Silas staggers back to his feet, Ernest punches him out. The Winnah!!

The Cute Little Girl is even cuter with RDA.

Silas’ horse wants some attention, too. Unfortunately, Ernest doesn’t deal well with horses.

The scene ends with Ernest attempting to run away from a rather baffled horse.

Tomorrow: the Heartwarming Epilogue!
