I just checked -- we've only had caps from this movie once before in all the years of the comm, back in 2007. And I'm pleased to announce that my new DVD/VHS player works . . . *WEG*
He looked great in this one, but even though I like Valerie Bertenelli, and of course RDA, I didn't think they were that good in this movie and that the whole movie was fairly mediocre.
But he still looks hot, especially in this bedroom scene (too bad he was smoking, which even ruined the hotness that is RDA, half naked, in bed.)
I remember being very impressed with the movie when it first aired, partly because Vietnam was only just losing its 'invisibility' in pop culture. Nowadays . . . well. I think the role was a stretch for him at the time, and not a completely successful one; and the script isn't exactly award-winning. But I look at some of the work he did after, and the stretching led to greater range.
As for the smoking . . . I edited the cigarette out of the caps. The hotness remains.
Ah--my eyes just saw the cigarette, even though you'd thoughtfully edited it, because I knew it was in that scene. (Yes, even though I wasn't much impressed by this movie, or the acting, even RDA's, I've still watched it more than once, and some parts more than that--this particular scene being the most watched, no surprise.)
I'd agree that it was a stretch for his acting abilities at that time, and with only a so-so script, he didn't do a great job with this one. But he improved with time (and some better material to work with) and that's the important thing.
