Is he wearing contact lenses that lighten his eyes during this season? Anyone have the story on that and want to share? Why on earth would they want to change those beautiful, dark eyes?
..to hide his latino heritage, and occasionally uses them to magnify the sun rays, burn the robes and macgyver his way out of things.. i might have watched Kiss, kiss, Bang, Banglor this week..twice
*rofl* Guess what I just watched last night :P Too funny ^^ Cause that what exectly the first thing I thought about as I read the comment surrealphantast made.
His eyes look too light, like glowy (but not Goa'uld glowy). I still wouldn't have kicked him outta my bed for eating crackers, but those eyes just aren't right.
Yes, exactly! I mean the lighter eyes have an appeal, and they certainly don't hurt his looks, but it's not like the man had normal eyes to begin with. He had amazing dark brown eyes. Why the hell would they tamper with that?
Good question. I mean, seriously, man -- I should NOT be able to see his pupils from that distance. What gives?
Certainly, I think he was wearing contacts at that point. I mean, in the sense of, we know he needed them. (I have to admit, I treasure that one shot in WoO where you can actually see the rim of the contact lenses.) So the question is -- were they purposefully trying to lighten his eyes? And, why the hell...? Or, was it something odd to do with the contacts he had at that time and the way they came out on film?
Admittedly, I'm slightly at a loss to explain how normal contact lenses of any type could result in that kind of lightening, but jeez, I dunno -- if they mess with the way light hits his eyes and combine that with set lighting or film stock or something. I just wonder if there could be a technical explanation, that's all.
You know what I think we need? I think we need a screencap-essay that examines this question further. Now I really want to see close-ups of his eyes in various seasons (perhaps various lighting conditions) in both Mac and SG-1.
YES. omg! Making an essay like that would take a while. Eesh. ;)
See, and my experience has always been that if just a normal contact lense, or one that's slightly colored with your eye color (so you can see it in order to clean and insert) it actually makes your eye color slightly darker. So in order to lighten the color you'd have to have some heavy-duty color in them. (I work with a guy who wears yellow contacts with the vertical black slit in them for Halloween.)
I think they did it purposefully for whatever reason, and it actually fits in with what they were obviously trying to do with his hair in this season too. The lighter color and the streaks of blond. I realize that Mac is sort of a beach bum, but... just, NO. I noticed it in a few episodes from this season, and I could not figure out why they'd want to tamper with one of his, obviously, best features.
(You're gonna make me cap like crazy to get this essay finished, aren't you? :P )
Yup! (I'd volunteer, but I'm scrambling to finish a ficathon story at the moment that is just *kicking my ass*.)
I agree with you, it's the weirdest damn thing. I don't even mind the fact that he just gets blonder and blonder until you get to the very last seasons and you're like, "What the HELL?", but you're right, why would you ever mess with the eyes? Especially since the light-hair, deep brown eyes look is EXTRA sexy? (Not that his eyes aren't sexy with any color hair, even his own dark hair, but there's something extra-rowr about the contrast between light hair and dark eyes -- which is what works so well for him once he goes all silvery.)
OK, I'd only noticed it a time or two on my MacGyver dvds, and wondered at the time if the whole film was "sepia" or something, but I knew he had dark brown eyes and thought it was just some film thing. (though, in that line of thought, I also know that AT has blue eyes, and quite often on SG1 they don't look all that blue, so I'm sure it's something that's being done with the film overall to make them look somewhat different, and you just notice it with the eyes, which you know should be a good clear blue).
But I digress. As I started to say, I think just a month or so ago there was a whole thread on this at the RDAnderson.com website, the message board part, and KateR, who owns the site and has been a fan of his for a long time, chimed in to say (in response to someone like me saying maybe it was just the film coloring) that she had personally interviewed him during--I thought she said season 6--of MacGyver and that it had been very strange to look into his normally brown eyes, which were, she said, almost catlike. She was sure they were colored contacts. She felt sure he'd worn those contacts for several, if not most, episodes of a season of MacGyver.
I shall have to research this--I feel a MacGyver marathon coming on!
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the reason why he was wearing colored contacts and the whole hair getting more and more blond was because of the popularity of the style. The blue eyed/blond hair look was really in and I guess RDA didn't really fit that with his chocolately brown hair and eyes *giggles*......*fades away*
